Podiatrists Podiatrists specialize in diagnosing and treating disorders of the foot, ankle, and lower leg. Podiatrists have expertise in orthopedics, radiography, sports medicine, dermatology, and surgery. Some conditions that podiatrists treat are ankle injuries, bunions, calluses, neuromas, running injuries, and toe deformities. They are often the first health professionals to diagnose vascular problems that have previously gone unrecognized. Podiatrists also contribute significantly to the areas of diabetic foot care, arthritic foot care, and wound healing. Our staff includes the following podiatrists:
Dr. James Bartley has been in private practice since 1983. He is a Columbus native and attended Clubview Elementary, Richards Middle School, and Brookstone School. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Georgia in 1979. He attended and received his medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1982. He completed his podiatric surgical residence in Jacksonville, FL, at Jacksonville General Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons. He is a member in good standing with the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Georgia Podiatric Medical Association. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery in foot and ankle surgery. He specializes in forefoot and rear foot reconstruction. He is a past President of the local chapter of the American Diabetes Association. He attends numerous seminars each year to ensure that he is current on any of the latest techniques or medical breakthroughs in his field. He is an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board for several years. He is also a member of the Georgia Bulldog Club and the local Kiwanis Club. He is a member of the Columbus Museum, an active supporter of the Springer Opera House and a member of the Columbus Quarterback Club. He recently served as the Vice President of the Columbus Youth Soccer Association as well as coaching on all of his three daughters soccer teams at various times. He has been married to his wife, Terry, since 1983 and they have three daughters, Sherry Marie, Christen, and Caroline. His oldest daughter, Sherry, attends Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC, where she is majoring in economics. His hobbies include golf, fishing, traveling, working out, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Alap Shah joined the practice in October of 2002. He is a native of Texas. He received his bachelor degree in biology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1996. He attended and received his medical degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine in New York, New York, in 2000. He completed a two-year surgical residency at the Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in Jamaica Queens, NY. He is a member in good standing with the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Georgia Podiatric Medical Association. He is a certified wound care specialist from the American Academy of Wound Management. While he is trained in all areas of podiatric medicine, his specialty is diabetes and diabetic wound care management. He is a participating physician at the St. Francis Wound Care Center and the Columbus Regional Wound Care Center. He has been married to his wife, Pinki, since 2003 and they have two sons, Dilan and Jadin. He is an avid tennis player and participates in the CORTA tennis program at Copper Creek. He is a board member of IUCA (Indo-United States Cultural Association of Columbus). The IUCA provides a platform to increase awareness of Indian culture and heritage through organizing related events in the Columbus Community. He is also a member of the Columbus Contemporary Group at the Columbus Museum, the Columbus Quarterback Club, and the Downtown Rotary Club. His hobbies include music, basketball, billards, and working out.
Dr. Michael Schreck has been in practice at the Foot & Ankle of West Georgia since January of 2003. A native of Colorado, he attended the University of Northern Colorado where he graduated with a BA in kinesiology (sports medicine) and a minor in chemistry. He received the President's Honor Scholarship to attend Podiatric Medical School in San Francisco, CA. After four years, he received his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree and then spent another 2 years in a general and surgical podiatric residency rotating in San Francisco and San Diego. He went on to complete a 3rd year of clinical and surgical training specializing in pediatric orthopedics at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Dr. Schreck is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) and American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). He also provides surgical and clinical help to patients at Doctors Hospital, St. Francis and Columbus Regional Medical Center. Dr. Schreck has been selected to be a board member for the Juvenile Diabetes Association in Muscogee County. Dr. Schreck has written and published articles for the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAPMA), Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics (JPO), Podiatry Today, as well as a chapter in the book "Essentials of Pediatric Othopedics." His article "Pediatric Longitudinal Epiphyseal Bracket: Review and Case Study" was published in the September/October 2006 issue of Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Schreck found his way to Columbus due to the fact that he has family in the Georgia area. His brother resides in Woodstock, GA, and his mother was originally from Greenville, GA. He is highly involved with the Cooper Creek Tennis League (CORTA) and has coached for the CYSA soccer program as well. He is a member of the Columbus Contemporary Group though the Columbus Museum and the Columbus Quarterback Club. He enjoys going to the performing arts at Springer Opera House and River Center and hobbies include soccer, tennis, hiking, working out, and listening to and collecting music of all types.
Dr. M. Carter Hyneman joined Foot and Ankle of West GA as an associate in September of 2007. Dr. Hyneman is a Columbus native and graduated from Columbus High in 1995. He graduated from Columbus State University with a degree in biology. He attended Des Moines College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa, where he graduated in 2004. After graduation, he completed a two-year surgical residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, where he was one of the residency program's chief residents training at three large inter-city hospitals in Brooklyn and Queens, NY. At New York Hospital of Queens in Flushing, NY, Dr. Hyneman trained at a Level I trauma center where he specialized in trauma of the foot and ankle. At Wyckoff Heights he also trained under various MD's and DPM's in their Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Centers, treating acute and chronic diabetic wounds of the lower extremities. Dr. Hyneman has been married to the former Kathleen Culpepper of Columbus since 1999. They have two children, a son, Coulden, and a daughter, Daly. They attend Morningside Baptist Church. He is also a member of the Columbus Museum and the Columbus Quarterback Club. Dr. Hyneman is a lifelong hunter and an avid fisherman. He also enjoys playing golf and tennis and enjoys spending time with his family.
